Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities protects disabled people from discrimination and guarantees their rights to education, work, healthcare, and participation in society on an equal basis with others. For asylum seekers and refugees with disabilities, it means they should receive equal treatment and reasonable adjustments during asylum processes, and have access to support services without discrimination. However, this treaty has not been signed or ratified by any country, which means it has no legal force anywhere in the world and cannot be enforced. Since the UK has not ratified it, the UK has no legal obligations under this treaty, though disabled asylum seekers may have protections under UK domestic disability laws and other human rights treaties the UK has signed.
